u can see fr below that sale of potable water since 2002 to 2008
do not increase with population and GDP .1.26 million m3 per day.No change.

Pl note there is no time frame mentioned in this reply.
last time i think GCT put a meaningless time frame at 2061 that we can
self sufficient in water.wat the hell PUB needs a Asst.CE to answer
a forum letter?Have PUB want to send any message to SG people?
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
u can see my many calculations in old thread listed in my first reply today.
2.recycling is a must,like California
Now desalination plant provide abt 10% of needs.
NEWater will provide 30 % by 2011,100 % more than previously announced.
Thats by 2011,40 % of water from sea and sewage!!
BUT NO WORRY.Factories, like wader Fabs, oil refinery etc, take up almost
all NEWater.98 to 99%.Ok?NEWater is mainly aim for industries,
air cond cooling etc,not meant for drinking.Out of tap water
in your home or office, only one % ,yes one, come from NEWater,
after blending with rain water in reservoirs.
We still have Industrial Water to cut down demand of potable water,
like NEWater do so.
Dude, if you are adverse to consuming food derived from a "great advancement in technology", why would you want to consume recycled water, of which they are already blending into our reservoirs ?!
All the the things you have said in your posts are just solutions to a problem. The problem of land scarcity.
I'm not saying that we will run out of land or we will die. I'm just saying that there is a problem of land scarcity. Not just Singapore, but across the world.
There are solutions to the problem. However, the solutions may not be perfect ( The ministers have drank newater in public, didn't drop dead but nobody knows the long term effects). Suppose I smoke a cigarette on tv today. I don't die, can i safely say that cigarettes are not harmful ?
What long term effects of Newater can there be when it is basically just H20? No matter where it comes from there's nothing else in it unless something went wrong with the water reclaiming process.
It's a bit like saying that if I create water in a lab that is chemically, and purely water and nothing else, drinking it is somehow dangerous compared to drinking water that was "naturally made" in the skies... despite the fact that chemically and functionally, both sets of water are functionally identical.
Additonally the very non-newater tap water we have is derived from non-potable sources, and filtered through "unnatural" technologies... we don't seem to have any issues with it.
Basically barring any massive failure in the Newater process drinking Newater is about as boring as drinking chemically pure water... if anything the problem is that it is too pure and we are not getting any minerals from it.
We have to be rational about our critiques.
