Singapore's petrol prices will always be $0.40 per litre higher than market rates.
Why?
Because we have petrol tax.
If you pump 40 litres of premium unleaded, $17.60 goes to the government in taxes.
*dal = decalitres = 10 litres.
Motor spirit, premium leaded = $7.10 per dal
Motor spirit, premium unleaded = $4.40 per dal
Motor spirit, regular leaded = $6.30 per dal
Motor spirit, regular unleaded = $3.70 per dal
Other motor spirit, leaded = $6.80 per dal
Other motor spirit, unleaded = $4.10 per dal

Are those countries you referring to in the top 20 in terms of GDP per capita?Where citizens in the same job scope make 3-4 times that of Singaporeans?
Why should taxes be applied when oil is at it's peak?
The government used to tell us, the reserves will be used to cushion Singaporean in times of economic crisis. The economic crisis is upon us, why has the government relented in reducing the petrol tax to help ordinary Singaporeans get along.

TS is putting effort to convince people that the petrol price in sg is the cheapest. Do PAP pay for petrol without tax?

it is common for developed countries to imposed high taxes on cigarette because the healthcare cost in developed countries are more expensive. If you want strong and cheap cigarette, go to indonesia.
