Should the women be blamed for taking a short cut? It is simply human nature to take the shortest possible route to their destination.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:I thot it was about JBJ... moral of the story? Do not walk or ride or drive in small deserted lanes when you are overseas... not just JB. Not even Singapore... remember the Terror of Clementi? The guy that raped three women... and what were the women doing? Taking a short cut through a quiet park...
You take a short cut in a dark, deserted, lonely path then, you are taking a risk... you take a risk, you suffer the consequences. What has that got to do with religion?Originally posted by BillyBong:Should the women be blamed for taking a short cut? It's like that Muslim Cleric in Australia who sprouted rubbish, claiming that women deserved being raped because of the way they dressed. Utter rot from misguided religious bigots.
running around is part of growing up for all children, and even if they trip, they don't have to pay with their life or broken legs.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:You take a short cut in a dark, deserted, lonely path then, you are taking a risk... you take a risk, you suffer the consequences. If parents warn their children not to run around because they might trip and fall, they are religious bigots?
Why do you think that the women taking the short cut should be blamed for being raped? Are you a religious bigot?![]()
nobody is forcing you to go... if you are so scared... every weekend up to 50,000 visit... obviously they do not agree with you...Originally posted by countdracula:the moral of the story is no to visit jb, period....given the high incident of crime, why singaporeans insist in heading north is beyond me...it's a death trap out there...abdullah needs to make the streets safe before the iskandar project can attract investors....

By your yardstick, every route you take has its risk. So why should a 'short-cut' be any different? In JB, it's clear as crystal that dimly-lit roads and pathways should be avoid at all costs due to obvious reasons.
Your claim that people get robbed because they take a 'short-cut' implies that generally these people 'deserve it' which is ludicrous, when it is plainly human nature to do so. The religious bigot example simply attenuates the error of your claim.

Should this be in Chit Chat?
It is definitely NOT human nature to drink alcohol or smoke, while your sleazy suggestion of having sex is purely down to the individual. If this is your idea of human nature, then i can only imagine what other warped perversions you have coming.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:There are riskier and less risky routes... you run across the highway to get across in as short a time and distance as possible, you are taking a "riskier" route.
It is human nature to want to drink alcohol, smoke cigs and have sex with as many partners as possible... but if you drink alcohol excessively, you stand the risk of liver cirrhosis; if you smoke, you risk... just look at the pics on cig boxes... if you have sex with as many partners as possible, you have a higher risk of getting AIDS.
You do the deed, you suffer the consequences... you prey on women like the Clementi terror... you get caning and spend the rest of your life in prison...
You insist on running across the pedestrian crossing when you have the right of way and ignore the cars... when the drunk or careless driver knocks you down, tell us how "right" you are and how you should not be blamed in your paralyzed state.
forget it. bad plan. i think he likes these sorta things. -_-"Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:remind him, so you can go and enjoy the goodies for yourself with less competition and less traffic jams at the customs?![]()

What sort of route are we talking about? I recall it was drilled into kids' heads back in primary school to avoid pathways that seem too quiet and deserted or too dark, more so for women. It's not often mentioned in Singapore, but the general advice to women abroad is to avoid dark areas and at night, if they need help, call for the police for some kind of escort.Originally posted by BillyBong:It is definitely NOT human nature to drink alcohol or smoke, while your sleazy suggestion of having sex is purely down to the individual. To clarify, taking a short cut through a 'dark alley' definitely curtails a hightened risk; yet taking a 'short-cut' itself cannot be viewed as 'wrong'.
Is not taking the shortest or fastest route in the best interest of the everyone? Why walk further when you can 'short-cut'? Why else would some dash across the expressway on the TPE when there is an overhead bridge about 400m away? Why else would people cut across an open field if there was a proper pedestrian pathway nearby? As you already mentioned, the risk is there, so let the individual make his choice.
No need to chastise him for his decision-making.
You think that alcohol, smoking and sex are morally objectionable? So why did you complain about the cleric when you yourself has an equally "holier than thou" attitude?Originally posted by BillyBong:It is definitely NOT human nature to drink alcohol or smoke, while your sleazy suggestion of having sex is purely down to the individual. safety in numbers is not true.Originally posted by mancha:More Singaporeans should go to JB.
There is safety in numbers.
If you go to JB with a horde of Singaporeans, what are the chances of you being mugged?
The larger the numbers, the smaller the chances.
Therefore the chances will great that the other fellow get mugged.
But if it happen that the other fellow is you, take heart that you have spared someone else of being mugged.
