Why waste time with concepts like a system of checks and balances to make sure they maintain their moral standing? Too difficult, just build corrupition into the system.

So, if they raise their wages does that mean that they will not be corrupt? Will not help their family members or friends get out of trouble? Will not give projects to them? Can you ensure that?

Our Ministers get a lot of perks too - they are civil servants too and if i recall correctly civil servants get alot of perks (e.g - medical bills etc.) And yes, unlike Bush, our Ministers are transparent about their pays - but the extent and degree of transparency is still questionable. I believe most Heads of State in general get perks and other freebies which they may consider unimportant to let the public know about, but which may actually be of some importance to the public.Originally posted by MamaRos:I don't know but I find it really hard to believe that President Bush is getting the amount of pay as stated. He gets to live in the White House for free right? He gets to travel for free right? There are lots of perks the President gets which none of us will know and that we will never know.
I have no say about our Ministers getting an increase in their salaries or about their 'high' pay. What I do appreciate is their being transparent about it. Of course they know the public will KPKB but there's nothing anyone can do about it.![]()
Eating rice is peanuts to them - with so much money even if they eat dragon's meat (imported from heaven), sharks fins 1st grade (pau chee), 1st grade birds nest, geo duck, abalone everyday, there will still be a lot of money left.Originally posted by wave24:Why the hell they need so high pay for?? to the lower income workers pay or to the charity to help the needy.
Its not as if the minister hav eat 10kg of rice at one go...At the end of the day,
how tired, hungry or stress they are, they can only eat the same amount or quantity
of rice their stomach can take...??
Talking about charity, did they ever donate b4??
Anyone remembered them doing so..??
OOOh I forgot, after all the donation will go back to their salary!!
they said pay them well to prevent corruption. My question is if they are not paid well does it mean they have the right to corrupt?Originally posted by wave24:Why the hell they need so high pay for?? Half of their salary should go

I think that was never the question. Instead we should believe it as a form of deterence. No doubt measures are never foolprrof. But we must take comfort that many of our needs have been taken care of. We always seek to justify and question whats fair, in my opinion equality varies in the eyes of all. Whats more important is the big picture! If the people are sufficiently taken care of, why should we make issue out of what others receive?Originally posted by zix1:they said pay them well to prevent corruption. In the organisations that my humble country men are, do you believe that you are being paid enough? Why not start at the micro level and resolve issues that affect you more rather than those that have little repercussions to your daily lifestyle?
We say that 2.06 million is allot, that equates to just 0.5c from every Singaporean. I would rather spend my time fruitfully comparing and thinking what more could be done for the people and be happy at the fact that my country is better off than many others! Whats the use of Bush being paid lrdd and ruling the country when he is already considered incompetant in so many quarters? I would rather be happy that my well paid ministers are doing their jobs competantly
You are more stupid Mr MatOriginally posted by Mat Toro:You sound so silly mr.eric.
pls substantiate your posting above with information on how you come to this conclusion.
The hypocrisy is, US politicians are very very rich. Much richer than our ministers. You either earn your money officially or unofficially. I rather our ministers earn it officially.
ministers have a PERMANENT pension of 60-70% of their last drawn pay, starting from age 50+Originally posted by strangeangel:Our Ministers get a lot of perks too - they are civil servants too and if i recall correctly civil servants get alot of perks (e.g - medical bills etc.) And yes, unlike Bush, our Ministers are transparent about their pays - but the extent and degree of transparency is still questionable. Thats great, they deserve every cent they are getting and will be getting.Originally posted by soul_rage:ministers have a PERMANENT pension of 60-70% of their last drawn pay, starting from age 50+
That means, you could be earning their salaries PLUS pension at the same time.
MPs, upon serving of 2 terms, have a permanent pension of > $5000/mth for the rest of their lives.
I see a lot people like you. Posting in a way that soothes the situation.Originally posted by sWaiZZy:I think that was never the question. Instead we should believe it as a form of deterence.
