Actually this is just open corruption..
When you stick to corruption, you still need to think how to cover your tracks... here, they just pay themselves what they would get through corruption and da-dah!

Now that the whole world knows about SingaporeÂ’s ministersÂ’ pay, I feel embarrassed when I go overseas to Batam, KL, Bangkok or Siem Reap( canÂ’t travel far because of financial constraints.)
Maybe I’m too sensitive but I feel that the people will look and laugh at me and whisper among themselves, “ here’s the sucker from Singapore.” -

What kind of governance is this - good or bad time ministers were still entitled to pay increases and when it is good time they will be quickly given the increases even before any one or the citizens are entitled to their reliefs.
It is like saying that no one can commit crimes, or take company's monies and only the ministers can because ministers have waited for 6 years since the last recession and now is the time for them to do so as soon as GST is increased - workfare or any other schemes can wait.
So Durai could not take but ministers can take any amount. So CSJ cannot take any postage stamp to use it to send a thesis for his wife to university and CSJ deserves to be sacked or jailed or sued.
So CPIB don't care which case is more serious - ministers taking any amount of public monies as they like good or bad time - but will be doubly quick to send any one to jail for miniscule CBT or corruption.
Do this is called leadership and not mediocrity like that found in the Denmark or Finland system and our excellent ministers should be given a free hand to govern the country as they like in this manner.
Where is the mandate or constitution that give them this right to reward themselves and receive two salary cheques per month or supersede their employment contract which already pelt out in the oaths or contract of appointments. -
Yes this whole pay raise thing is ridiculous. But well. They are the boss and we are the slaves. I know in India (and a LOT more other countries), people won't rest like this. There will be riots, suicide demonstrations and so on. Of course I am not in anyway supporting those methods. But things like peaceful protests or hunger strikes or any kind of strikes are also not given any chance in this country.
Face the truth.. Most of the people's life here is totally robotic.. You do what u r told and u r told what to do.
I learned long time ago that democracy meant: "For the people, by the people, of the people"
I think the definition changed over time ^^ You have to replace the word people with ministers.

President George W. Bush.
"I'm going to emigrate and run for office in Singapore," the official said on condition he be identified only as "a senior administration official who sits in disbelief after reading that story."
On Monday, the Singapore government had announced a fresh 25.5 percent pay hike for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, boosting his salary to 2.05 million dollars per year.
Bush gets paid 400,000 dollars per year for doing his job, according to the White House.
Combined with personal investment income, he and his wife Laura reported 618,694 dollars in taxable income in the 2005 fiscal year. They had to pay 187,768 dollars in federal taxes.
But maybe Bush shouldn't feel so bad. The Singaporean's paycheck is eight times fatter than Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's.

I don't know but I find it really hard to believe that President Bush is getting the amount of pay as stated. He gets to live in the White House for free right? He gets to travel for free right? There are lots of perks the President gets which none of us will know and that we will never know.
I have no say about our Ministers getting an increase in their salaries or about their 'high' pay. What I do appreciate is their being transparent about it. Of course they know the public will KPKB but there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Because they should be pricing themselves agains other countries ministers and presidents !!! If they want to pegged again commerical that is wrong, they may as well pegged it against Bill Gate !!!
Singapore govt must understand that like outside company, which company does not want the best talent, but there must be match to the ability and willingness of the company to pay. If blindly going for best talent, will destory the company as no matter how well the company does, the salary already suck the company dry....
