These minimum standards are:
It should be well written.
It should not be a 'chat' topic.
Characteristics that should lead to a 'Yes' vote are:
A topic that sgForums is PROUD to show the world!
Interesting
Relevant
Intelligent
Characteristics that should lead to a 'No' vote are:
Stupid
About someone's personal life no one else would want to know about
"Everybody let's vote for this topic to become featured!"

Featured Topics will help visitors locate the most relevant and interesting topics by putting them on the front page, and at the top of the forum pages.
How come no matter how many people I get to vote for my topic it still isn't featured?
Your topic probably fits all the characteristics of a 'No' vote and so all your 'sarporters' have their votes ignored forever.

i dun see the purpose of featured topics. 1st timers come in, see those crap topics, sia suay sgforums only.

I think if this feature were to stay, an enhancement to prevent its abuse would be to attach a condition to it, such as the frequency of replies or thread views. Something like that.
